Charlotta María Hauksdóttir is an award-winning visual artist based in California whose practice spans photography, collage, photo-sculpture, and spatial installation. Residing in the US for over 20 years, she draws deep inspiration from her native Iceland. Her work, which ranges from tactile topographical landscapes and botanical assemblages to intimate observations of domestic and environmental spaces, is an ongoing investigation into our symbiotic relationship with our surroundings. By layering and reconstructing photographs, Hauksdóttir translates personal memory, ecological shifts, and the passage of time into a distinct visual language. Whether exploring sweeping environmental erosion or the quiet endurance of the everyday spaces we inhabit, her practice visualizes how profoundly we are shaped by the world around us.

Hauksdóttir’s extensive exhibition history spans solo and group shows worldwide, including venues such as the National Museum of Iceland, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, and various international photography festivals. Her monograph, A Sense of Place - Imprints of Iceland, is archived by SFMOMA, Princeton, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work is also held in private and corporate collections, including Stanford Health Care, Fidelity Investments, Genentech, and the Fairmont Banff Springs. She holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, a BA from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, and a Diploma from the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

She is currently a resident artist at the Cubberley Artist Studio Program.
